ADHD Therapy for Kids, Teens & Adults in Johnson County, KS

Welcome

At Prairie View Counseling LLC, I specialize in helping kids, teens, adults, and parents navigate the real-life challenges of ADHD. Whether it’s focus, follow-through, motivation, emotional regulation, or just keeping up with the chaos of daily life — you’re not alone, and you’re not failing. You just need a better system.

👥 Who I Work With

I work with kids and teens who are struggling with focus, frustration, friendships, and school. I support parents who are trying to hold everything together while raising a child with ADHD — often wondering if they're doing enough or doing it right. I also work with adults who feel like they’ve spent years masking, compensating, or just plain burning out from trying to manage life with a brain that works differently.

Whether you’re just starting to explore an ADHD diagnosis or you’ve known for years, therapy can help you move from surviving to thriving — as a family, as an individual, and as a parent.

🔧 What Makes My Approach Different

I’m not just trained to work with ADHD — I live it every day.

As a parent of a neurodivergent child, a spouse, a therapist, and someone who has navigated my own ADHD journey, I understand the messy, complicated, exhausting, and beautiful reality behind those four letters. It’s not just about attention — it’s about feeling like you’re working twice as hard to keep up, only to feel like you’re falling behind anyway. It’s about forgotten details, emotional overload, unfinished tasks, and the constant weight of “Why can’t I just…?”

This work is personal. And it’s why I’ve built a practice that treats ADHD with the nuance and respect it deserves — not as a flaw to be fixed, but as a brain difference that requires new strategies, honest conversations, and a whole lot of grace.

In our sessions, I blend:

  • Tools based on the research of experts like Russell Barkley and Thomas Brown
  • A strengths-based approach that focuses on what’s working — not just what’s broken
  • Family systems work that helps you improve relationships, not just behavior
  • CBT and executive functioning strategies that are concrete, practical, and real-world-tested
  • Faith-informed guidance if you want to integrate that into your journey

Therapy here isn’t one-size-fits-all. Some sessions might include visuals, hands-on tools, coaching, LEGO builds, or just space to breathe and reset. My goal is to help you or your child build systems that actually work — and to feel seen in the process.

💬 What Sessions Look Like

Every session is designed to meet you or your child where you are — and move you forward with real, usable strategies. No fluff. No lectures. Just practical support and a human connection.

🧒 Kids & Teens

ADHD doesn’t just affect the child — it affects the entire family system. That’s why I always include parents in the process. Sessions may begin with just a parent, a parent and child together, or the child on their own, depending on age, goals, and what’s happening that week.

With younger clients, therapy blends movement, visuals, games, and hands-on tools — LEGO builds, Zones of Regulation visuals, or conversations using cards and storytelling. With teens, we focus more on insight, self-regulation, and decision-making.

As kids grow, the responsibility for change slowly shifts from the parents to the child — but I make sure no one has to navigate that shift alone. We’ll work as a team, focusing on tools that build connection, reduce conflict, and support independence.

👨‍👩‍👧 Parents

Success for a child with ADHD isn’t just about what happens in session — it’s about what happens at home. That’s why I see parents as essential partners in the process. You have the greatest influence on your child’s growth, and you deserve the support, tools, and education to do that with confidence.

I’ll work with you to understand what ADHD really is (and what it’s not), how to respond to behaviors with insight instead of frustration, and how to create structure that fits your child’s unique brain. You’ll get practical strategies — not judgment — and space to ask honest questions without shame.

And let’s be real: sometimes we realize the parent has ADHD too. If that’s the case, we can work on systems for you right alongside your child. You’re part of the healing and growth — and you matter just as much.

🧔 Adults

ADHD doesn’t go away with age — it just gets more complicated. For many adults, the biggest struggles aren’t just with focus or follow-through — they show up in relationships. Misunderstandings, emotional reactivity, forgotten details, unfinished tasks, and deep feelings of being “too much” or “not enough” can take a real toll.

In our work together, we’ll talk about how ADHD affects communication, emotional regulation, and conflict — including things like Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria (RSD), which can make even small feedback feel overwhelming. We’ll explore the patterns that might be hurting your relationships and build new ways to respond with clarity, confidence, and compassion.

You’ll also gain tools to improve executive functioning, reduce shame, and get clear on how your brain actually works. It’s not about fixing you — it’s about helping you feel more like yourself, with systems and strategies that support your life, your relationships, and your purpose.

📍 In-Person & Virtual Options

I offer in-person sessions at my Leawood office, just off 119th and Roe — easily accessible from Olathe, Overland Park, and the greater Johnson County area. Whenever possible, I encourage clients to meet in person, especially for kids, teens, and family sessions. The movement, energy, and hands-on tools we use in therapy often land best face-to-face.

That said, I understand that life can get busy. If you're located elsewhere in Kansas — or just need the flexibility — virtual sessions are available and still rooted in the same practical, relational approach. We'll figure out what works best for you.

📞 Ready to Get Started?

You don’t have to figure this out alone — and you’re not meant to.

Whether you're a parent overwhelmed by the daily challenges of raising a child with ADHD, a teen feeling misunderstood, or an adult trying to hold everything together, there's a path forward.

Together, we’ll build a plan that fits your life, your family, and your brain. You’ll get real tools, honest support, and a partner who sees the full picture — not just the symptoms.

Let’s take the next step toward focus, growth, and healing.
